Prayer, it is essential to our spiritual life. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. I saw a post on FaceBook this weekend that said something like 'you don't need a special place to pray, you can pray anywhere'. Yes, you can but do you?
Do you pray with fervency? Do you intercede for your family and friends? Do you spend time talking to God and letting Him talk to you? Or are you a 'line here and there' type of prayer? Now I'm not going to knock any kind of prayer that is prayed in faith. But I look in the Bible and there were some people there that got serious about prayer! And they saw things happen.
I saw the movie War Room, this weekend and it caused me to rethink my Bible study and prayer habits. How often do we get distracted with the things around us when we are trying to pray or study the Bible? I can't speak for everyone but for me, it is often. I'm easily distracted. It might be my granddaughter calling or coming into my room. It might be my phone buzzing or I think of something that just HAS to be done. Something tells me I'm not alone in this.
And when you start praying, how do you remember the requests? Do you have a journal? If you do, do you record answers to prayer in it, so you have something to go back too? Do you have a prayer list or an app? How do you determine what you will pray about? Do you know scriptures that give you promises? Do you quote them in your prayers?
Do you have a prayer strategy? You know, a list of the things that are most important to you that you are ready to put an answered beside them? Do you have family situations that you feel there is no hope for? Or maybe it is a financial need, you just don't feel God understands how concerned you are.
When you pray for someone do you pray for specifics or it is a 'God bless them everyone' type of prayer. I believe that God wants us to be specific. He says in James, we have not because we ask not or we ask amiss. He wants us to seek Him and His guidance and then to pray with confidence that He will answer. It may not be the answer we are requesting but He WILL answer.
My conclusion is my prayer life needs work! Do you know how that excites me? Do you know WHY that excites me? God is teaching me things! He is directing me and He is preparing me! We are at war with satan, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. The devil wants us to be too distracted to pray. He wants us to feel our prayer life is 'good enough'. Well, I don't want to be 'good enough', I want to the best I can be.
