My Refuge, My Help

Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Refuge - a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble.  You are save and sheltered no matter what storm or problem may come your way.  God's word tells us so.  We may feel buffeted like the disciples did when they were on the sea of Galilee but we are safe!  We are sheltered by the Almighty God of Heaven.

That is shouting ground right there!  God is a PRESENT help- He is not absent, we do not have to wait until He has time for us.  Regardless of how we feel about our circumstances, He is there with us.  God knows we have trouble and trials and He is there.

Well, why do I feel forsaken?  Why do I not have peace and comfort?  Why do I feel about to be destroyed?  Oh my, how often do we feel like this.  Yet the answer is simple, we have not given it to God.  In the midst of the strongest storm we can have peace if we give the problem to God.  When we are trying to handle it, the smallest battle can be so overwhelming.

Giving our battles to the Lord is a daily routine.  Putting on the whole armor of the Lord is a daily routine.  We must get our daily routines to be consistently done.  When the armor is not on, it is easier for the devil to attack.  When we have a hold on our latest battle, it makes it too easy to reach out and grasp those that we have previously given to Him as well.

Here is a 'secret', sometimes the devil will drag those burdens and problem reminders back into your mind hoping you will reach over and grab them again.  He knows that is our tenacity.   He knows that we hold on with a death grip once we get our hands back on it.  And it is a death grip because it will kill your joy, your peace, our contentment when you are weighted down with those problems.

God is our refuge, He wants us safe and sheltered.  He is a present help but we have to let go of the trouble and cares and allow Him to help us, allow Him to pull us into the shelter and keep us safe.
