Psalms 37: 23 The steps of a good man are orderede by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way
24 Though he fall , he shall not be utterly cast down : for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
I may fall, yes, I often do but God tells me here that I will still have Him holding me.. He will lift me up. What a promise, there is never a time my God is not with me. He tells me that, in Hebrews 13:5 "I will NEVER leave nor forsake you". But not only is He there but He is holding me. He knows my steps.
Now when it says a good man here, it doesn't mean a perfect man(woman) because if they were perfect they would not fall. It is talking about us, those who have repented of their sins and turned to Christ. He is there even when we fall, we mess up, He still loves us.
We need to know this, not just in our heads but in our heart. Satan wants to tell us when we mess up, when we fall, 'God is so ashamed of you, He will never want you back'. Well, devil, I've got news for you - God is there and He loves me even when I fall!
The devil wants us to fall and then stay in the mess we fell into, but God will uphold us! I don't want to give the devil credit that he doesn't deserve but the Bible tells us that he is crafty, he is deceitful, he wants to destroy our joy and take our hope. But God is there and will lift us up. We just have to trust Him.
When you hear a voice whispering negative things, that is NOT God! God loves you, He wants you to be filled with joy, He wants you to have eternal hope! Yet we still list to that whisper of satan, why?
For those old enough to remember, there used to be a commercial that said 'When E.F. Hutton talks everyone listens'. Whatever Hutton said was in a whisper. What do you do when you hear someone whispering? What do you think?
If you are like me (and most folks, I'm afraid) you tune in because this must be something important or special. It is a secret and we all want to know secrets. So that is how satan gets our attention, it is with a subtle whisper, a quiet suggestion, a small temptation. He doesn't put the big things that you would immediately recognize as bad in front of you. He puts the little things that are tantalizing, they draw you.
And sometimes, I fall down. I'm not listening to the Father so I hear satan and he puts something in front of me that I don't see the wrong in. Or I think 'it's not that bad'. Man, are those words that can send you in the wrong direction! It's not that bad. If it is bad, it is bad regardless of the degree.
Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on You and Your will. Keep focused on doing GOOD, not any degree of bad. Show me Your ways and give me strength and courage to follow them.
