There have been many things going over and over in my mind the last few days. God is so good, yet we fail Him. He loves us so much, yet we often give in to anger and frustration. He is faithful, yet we are at times faithless. Why?
Why does He still love us? Why does His patience run long? Why does He not give up on us? It's because He is God and He sees not only what we are but what we can be. He sees each failure and how we learn from it and grow.
I'm reminded of the story of the little boy sitting at his mother's feet and she is doing needlepoint. As he sat on the floor he saw the knots, the strings and the maze of thread that was frankly a mess. He asked his mother why it was so messy. Then she turned it around and he could see it from her vantage point and it was beautiful.
We are the little boy and as we look at ourselves and what is happening we say 'Lord, why this mess?' But it isn't time yet for us to see it from His vantage point. One day we will. We will see that the beauty that all the messes and problems have created in the big picture.
We just need to trust Him, we need to realize He doesn't give up on us, so we are not to give up either. We need to acknowledge that our failures are just steps to take to move to the next stage. And we need to realize that God doesn't always define failure the same way we do. I'm really glad about that. He is much kinder than I am.
If God had the kind of patience I do, I'd probably be dead by now. But instead He just loves me! It's hard to get my head wrapped around that. It's hard for me to understand that when I mess up royally, instead of beating me up, He lifts me up.
Now that doesn't mean He never punishes, when we deliberately and willfully disobey Him, as any good parent He will discipline us. Not to be mean or because He doesn't love us but rather because He loves us so much. Just as a daddy may pop a child's name when it reaches for the fire or to pick up broken glass, He will do the same when He sees us making a mistake that can hurt us.
But God's discipline is always in love, never anger. His correction is for our good and He wants what is best for us. If we could just let go and rest in that how different our lives would be.
Today know this one thing, GOD LOVES YOU. Remember that JESUS DIED FOR YOU! Trust that GOD WANTS YOU TO BE BLESSED! But also know that He knows what is truly a blessing. Getting what you want is not always the blessing. Sometimes preventing the very thing you want the most is how He blesses us.
Trust Him today.
